Just after 8 am on Thursday (28/8/25), the team was contacted to assist the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) with a casualty reported to be unable to continue near Peel Tower on Holcombe Moor. As our team was deployed, our duty leader gave the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team a heads up too, as it was likely close to the boundary of our area – in agreement, they deployed a limited team callout to assist if needed.
Unfortunately, as local team members arrived in the area, they were not able to locate the casualty. Several calls were made to try and gain contact with the casualty without any progress, and as such, an immediate “hasty” search of the area covering main paths was completed.
After a short amount of time, the casualty was located, and resources were redirected along with the additional support from Bolton MRT. The casualty was treated and packaged into a casualty bag and placed onto the bell stretcher (and wheel) to evacuate them off the moor and down the track to hand back over to the care of the ambulance crew.
Many thanks to both Bolton MRT as well as members of the public who were out on the moor and assisted the team in trying to locate the casualty.
