Today we brought a gentleman home…
In the Rossendale Valley, there was a gentleman who needed some serious medical care in hospital. Now, sometimes the people we help live in very isolated locations that a standard ambulance can’t access. Our gentleman had managed to be collected, but sadly, numerous attempts had been made to get him home after surgery, but all fell short, and he had to repeatedly go back to the hospital.
Various other services had been called, but sadly couldn’t help, and the challenge was then on! We pride ourselves on helping those in the community who simply have no option left; after all, we’re part of the community and have the skills and equipment to do what others struggle to do.
At approximately 13:30 today, we were called to meet Patient Transport near the gentleman’s home. A small group of us aided with a transfer to our ambulance and then proceeded to make our way to his farm so he could be at home to recover.
We used our specialist MIBs stretcher to negotiate getting the gentleman into his house with great success, and in turn making an 80+ year old gentleman very happy and at ease at last. After all, home is where the heart is, and who are we not to try moving heaven and earth to help get him home – we’d want nothing less for ourselves.
So we might be mountain rescuers, but as our strapline states, we’re “more than just mountains”
We left the job with full hearts and a sense of pride that we enabled a poor man to get home and rest. We wish him a rested recovery.
