After a quieter couple of weeks, at just after 19:00 on Saturday evening (29/11/25), the team were contacted by Lancashire Police to assist with a vulnerable person on Pendle Hill.
Team members were deployed to assist with the incident, and as some of our volunteers collected vehicles from our base, local members quickly joined police officers who were already on the hill looking for the casualty.
A short time later, news was conveyed that members of the Lancs Rural Police had located the casualty at the top of the steps in a deteriorating condition. Team members on the hill made their way to the location to assist in the medical care of the casualty and provide additional equipment to protect them from the wintry conditions (sleet and snow falling and bitterly cold winds!) Once arrived, team members, along with support from officers, continued to monitor the casualty and keep them warm, out of the worst of the weather.
Additional team members awaited the arrival of the Polaris buggy (ATV), which allowed transportation of the team and additional resources onto the hill. Once at the casualty’s location, the casualty was assisted into the vehicle for a prompt evacuation off the hill and to the awaiting ambulance for onward transportation to the hospital and further care.
This incident was a true testament of teamwork and collaboration – the prompt find by our colleagues in the police and specialist resources we could provide as mountain rescue, prevented what could have easily been a very different outcome.
