CALLOUT 33 – Call to assist casualty on Pendle Hill
April 20, 2025CALLOUT 34
Around 13:45 yesterday the team were called by North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust to a report of a 64 y/o lady who was walking high up on the Nick O Pendle and after taking a tumble had a query broken wrist.
Mobile 2 and our ATV buggy were mobilised. 5 members made their way up ‘The Nick’ in the buggy and after a short while it was quite obvious there the lady was.
On initial assessment, the lady had a more serious injury as her right radius had broken her skin and was protruding about 2-3cm. Due to the shock, exposure on the hill and with exposed bone the callout was changed to being time critical and the team called for helimed.
Members quickly stabilised the lady and we chose to keep her warm in the buggy. Sadly helimed had other jobs at the time, so we proceeded to convey the lady down the hill nice and steadily to an arranged land ambulance.
We’d like to thank the young student nurse (whose name we sadly missed) for her quick thinking first aid before we arrived and hypothermia management!! 🙏🏻
The team wish the lady a full recovery and hope to see her out and about in the near future.
